SMALL HELLOS

Sometimes we move through an entire day surrounded by people without really connecting with anyone.

Even small interactions with the people we encounter in everyday life can contribute to feelings of connection and wellbeing.

Walking to class, or work. Getting coffee. Sitting in the library. Going to the gym. Standing in line. Taking the bus.

Experiment with a little friendliness.

You don't even have to feel particularly friendly. Just try the gesture.

Look up when you're walking.

Make eye contact.

Say good morning or smile at someone.

Hold the door, or let someone go in traffic.

Ask the person taking your coffee order how they're doing.

Ask your roommate if they want anything when you're heading out.

You may notice how many people are looking down or at their phones. Keep looking up. Chances are, you'll find someone looking back.

Nothing huge. Nothing forced. Just you, a little more open to the people around you.
